iPod in hand, Alex Foster creeped out into the halls. Chocolate eyes scanned the hall, just as she'd hoped, there was no one in sight. Apparantly, there was some huge party going down at the Dells... but tonight was just a 'stay at home, eat lot of chocolate chip cookies and marshmallows, put on your favorite PJ's, and watch a chick flick' kind of night. But first... she had to raid the vending machines.
A long old button down white shirt and some red and blue plaid boys' style boxers was all Alex wore to separate herself from indecency. She really looked like something out of an 80's movie with her white mid calf socks. Her hair was pushed back, only tucked behind her ears, as was the usual style for her, she wore no makeup, and just carried her ipod and a few dollars in change.
Luckily, the deserted dorms housed no students tonight, as far as she knew anyways, everyone was at that silly party. She'd have normally gone as a DD, but tonight... she just wanted a break. A break from the smell of liquor lingering for days in her car, the drunk and belligerent kids either flirting with her mindlessly, or yelling at her with a wildly slurred speech. Well, the latter is quite funny from time to time, but not tonight.
As she began picking songs from her playlists, she made her way through the halls, slowly the beat catching her off guard as she began to spin, twist and air guitar her way down the corridors to the vending machines.
The current song, "4ever" by the Veronicas. An unusual choice for someone so tough, but Alex was a girl of many preferences after all. "Come on baby we ain't gonna live forever... let me show you all the things that we could do..." Alex sang, slipping her quarters into the machine, "... let's see... D 4..." She mumbled, pressing the corresponding buttons. The coils sent a bag of M&M's falling down to the slot, and she again slipped in some more money, this time some Doritos falling down. She picked them up, and moved on to the drink machines, "Oh, ya ready for it, come on bring it... so kiss me goodbye..." She now sang as her playlist shuffled to Cobra Starship's "Snakes on a Plane", the song of course from the movie.
A Pepsi rolled down through the machine, and as she picked it up and turned to leave back to her dorm room, she was surprised to see another student standing by the snack machine. Nearly dropping the Pepsi, and instead dropping the chips and candy to the floor, Alex, embarrassed, reached down to pick up her mess. She looked back up at the other student, a blush now running from ear to ear. "Um... I didn't... think anyone else was still in the dorms..." She explained, pulling the headphones from her ears.

Tyler was going to murder Reid. Seriously, there was no way around it. Okay, so they'd all had a bit of fun with it but he'd messed up the car... again. It wasn't anything huge but, let's face it, it was annoying. He could have used his powers to fix it but Caleb would have felt it and then sent Pogue after him to get on his case... He really didn't need that. Still, he couldn't just leave well enough alone. So, after giving the cops a run for their money and then driving off of a cliff only to fall from the sky behind the car shortly after, Tyler had kicked Reid out at Nicky's and gone off to the school. Yes, Baby Boy was pissed.
It was a good thing that the school loved the money his parents supplied them, so much. It was only too easy for him to get whatever he wanted and that included access to the Automotive Department whenever he needed something. Tyler had pulled his H3 into the shop and commenced on fixing the minor problems before pulling it back out and parking it near the dorms. The rain was already washing off the mud that had been collected on it but he'd still need to take it to the car wash in the morning. Maybe not... Caleb should have been home by now and, as far as he knew, he was the only Son at the school. With a quick flash in his eyes, the mud fell from his car and it looked as if he'd just washed it. Now the rain would come on and help cover up what he'd done.
Unfortunately, he was drenched. They had been having a lot of rain, lately... Not that Tyler was complaining. He loved rain and it gave him a great excuse to stay in and play 360 all day. Tonight, though, he wasn't sure what he wanted to do. He wasn't tired but he wasn't in the mood for Halo or Rainbow Six. Maybe he'd go for a swim... Whatever it was, he had to find dry clothed to do it in. These were not working for him at all. Once inside, he peeled off his jacket and his shirt, leaving a soaked wife beater and a pair of jeans to cling to his body. The air conditioning in the dorms was cold and he had to make his way up to the fourth floor just to get to his own room and dry clothes. Tyler pulled off his shoes to keep them from squeaking while he walked and began to pick his way down the hall.
He stopped his progress, holding his breath for a moment and waiting when he heard a voice. That wasn't a teacher. At least he wouldn't get busted for breaking curfew... He just hoped that it wasn't the RA, either. Of course, he didn't think the RA would be walking down the halls singing. You never knew what a person was really like when no one was watching, though. Too bad for the girl but Tyler had to pass her way in order to get to his dorm. While he was at it, he figured a good drink and a candy bar wouldn't hurt but he'd have to see how much change he had in his pockets since he didn't think it'd be accepting the drenched bills at the moment.
Oh, caught! He hadn't meant to startle her, though. It was Alex, of all people, too. She'd gone off on Reid one day and Tyler had seen it and he was officially scared of her since then. This could go one of two ways. He could clam up and look like an idiot or he could start rambling and look like an idiot. "S-s-sorry, I didn't mean to... I mean, I wasn't..." Taking a deep breath, he tried this whole talking this once more. "I just got back."

Stress... Alex attributed this recent release of energy and time for recuperation to stress. She'd had a few huge exams lately, and her father had been attempting to get into contact with her once again. Well... she wasn't going to have that at all. She'd have nothing to do with him, and he knew it. Unfortunately, it seemed he didn't want to believe it. So she was really happy that all the students would be leaving her alone for the huge party. Well... all except for one evidently.
Normally, parties here would last until the sun came up, or the cops broke them up. Whichever.
That's partly why she was so surprised to see Tyler standing at the vending machines with her. The other students couldn't be far behind, and it was barely after midnight. Still, as if her singing and dancing like a maniac hadn't been bad enough, she'd proven she could be a klutz as well. And sure, she knew she could get caught and suspended... but this was a girl who'd have rather gone to military school after all. She didn't really give a damn if she woke every single RA in the institution up.
"Well... if you're Beauty, where's the Beast?" She said, referring to the spat between her and Reid. With a slight chuckle, and a grin, Alex twisted open the cap to her drink, taking a sip. She couldn't deny he was good looking, after all. All of their little... 'clique' was. She just didn't understand, or know many of them to consider herself a friend or foe, but judging by the one incident, she'd have an interesting time around them regardless.
"S-s-sorry, I didn't mean to... I mean, I wasn't..."
Alex smirked, pulling her bag of chips open, offering him some. "Mr. Tyler, tongue tied? Cute..." He was one of the most popular guys at school, so it was rather amusing to see him struggling to form his words now.
"I just got back."
Alex nodded, so he was at the party... "Have fun, Tiger?" She teased, her gaze falling to the ground for a minute before she continued, "I was just gonna watch a movie... roomie's still at the party and all..."

She thought she had to deal with stress? Not only did Tyler have school and sports, he also had a mother who worried over him constantly, three older 'brothers' who were always picking on him, and then these powers that were causing him nightmares and stealing his sleep. She could complain all she wanted but he had more factors in his life. Now... If you wanted to compare just how much stress was being dumped on them, that might be a bit different. Worse than that, he wasn't allowed to have a break. Reid was his room mate and they were always doing something or his mother was always calling in to check on him... It was enough to drive him crazy.
Yeah, that was just what had happened... The police had shown up and the boys had taken off in the Hummer. He'd dropped Pogue and Caleb off at Pogue's bike and gone off with Reid before that had gone south and Tyler had gotten annoyed with him, too. The chase with the cops had been fun but then the night had kind of killed it after that. He didn't have too many friends in Ipswich outside of school. Most of the kids had scattered to the win or hidden away somewhere after the police showed up. He had a cousin a few years older than him but they were still close. She had some pretty cool friends that didn't know about his reputation at the school. He was still shy but he wasn't the Baby Boy with them. Still, she lived in Boston and so that meant that he had no one to hang out with and he had gone to the dorm rather than to his house.
Knowing the kids at the school, the RA was probably at the party as well, come to think of it. He hadn't really stopped to think about her being a klutz. He was here, stuttering his way through a conversation with a girl like Alex. She was pretty and she was scary and she was pretty scary, too, and here he was, standing in the hall looking like a drowned rat. Absently, he pulled at the shirt to peel it off of his stomach but it really didn't help too much. The shirt snapped back onto his abdomen with a wet and loud clap.
He grinned at her question. He was Beauty, huh? Well, he wasn't really sure how to take that. "Nicky's," he answered her shortly. Tyler had never been a man of many words and it got worse when he was nersous. "I'll let him know you asked about him, though." Okay, he was freezing now and his skin was covered in goose flesh. It was even turning purple! A hot shower and dry clothes would fix that up in no time. Maybe the cold was helping him because he was talking a bit more than what he would have and he was even growing a little bolder with his words.
Tyler nodded at her plans for the night. "Yeah, I might do the same thing. That, or I'll be playing Xbox until four." Once he was in the game, he never really knew when he'd be off and in bed.
Alex Foster - August 10, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
There were things in her life she wasn't proud of, that she would never share with anyone. Alex was a strong individual, but if you got to the root of her facade, well... you'd understand why she had to be. She was tough as nails because she felt like she had to be, to make up for her mistakes. That's another reason she didn't want to deal with her father. He'd only be calling to see if she was shaming the family once again, and that was the very reason she'd decided to cease all contact with him. The little he did try to get in touch with her, it wasn't as if she was really being welcomed with open arms anymore. But after the cheating boyfriend... which would never have escalated and affected her as much as it had, if not for the other things that had happened that night... well, it was hard to trust anyone, guys especially.
A few drops of the rain water splashed against her from his soaked shirt as he pulled on it, and Alex couldn't help but chuckle as she brushed some water from under her eye. "Well, I'd offer you my... dry... shirt, but unfortunately it's all I've got on..." She laughed again, and shook her head a bit, it was so crazy... once you actually started talking to someone, and started seeing them for who they were, any expectation and impression was completely lifted. She'd pegged Tyler for a shy sheep, content to follow in Reid's footsteps to being a jerk who only really cared about himself. Then again, her first impressions of Reid weren't so well executed either. In what was probably a bit of a drunken stupor, some words had been exchanged between him and one of her friends. And Alex was just a bit protective of her friends.
"I'll let him know you asked about him, though."
"Well it wasn't him I was asking about really..." Alex smirked a bit, "But..." She began, her eyes being cast to the ground, "I should apologize... I... have a bit of a temper... and I really went off on him..." She lifted her head, and shifted to lean against the wall. "You're different though... you're nice..."
However, as they continued their conversation, she couldn't help but notice his skin turn a few shades of purple with goose bumps practically forming mountains at this point. "Midnight swim after the party?" She chuckled a bit, "You look like you're freezing..."
"Yeah, I might do the same thing. That, or I'll be playing Xbox until four."
"Wellllll.... I just bought this movie called Lucky Number Slevin... haven't seen it, but it's supposed to be really good, if you'd wanna watch it... roomie's staying with the boyfriend I think..." She didn't really consider her invitation to be anything but a motion of kindness, to try and sort of make amends, maybe let him and his friends see that she really wasn't all that bad. They had gotten off to quite the wrong foot after all.
Tyler Simms - August 10, 2007 06:10 PM (GMT)
Tyler didn't really have any regrets in his life. He didn't get to do anything that he worth regretting. Sometimes, he wished that he could but he couldn't. His mother was a pain when it came to that. Reid did everything and then he just got to blame Reid for it and then it was all over. It wasn't even him that blamed Reid for it, it was his mom. She was always telling the boys that they needed to keep an eye on him and take care of him or they were going to face the horrible wrath of his mother. She was one scary lady. That meant that Tyler wasn't liable for any of the things he did.
He blushed slightly, hoping the darkened hallway would be enough to hide it from her. "Girls should never offer guys that. It gets our hopes up." He grinned, sheepishly, and looked away from her and down the hall. He was kidding, of course. Tyler would never say something to a girl he really didn't know and be serious about it. Yes, Tyler was a shy sheep but he wasn't content to following Reid. Actually, there were only a few times when he liked it but it was who he was. He was the little brother who had to do what the others wanted. He had always been like that so it was just what he had gotten used to. He wanted to be his own person but he always felt weird whenever he tried to be himself. It was as if he didn't really have his own self, like he was what everyone thought he was... He hated it, really, but what could you do? He'd played his part for so long, it had become him.
Again, he blushed. If it wasn't him... Well, he couldn't just assume that she was asking about Tyler. That was silly. "Don't worry about it, Reid's got some thick skin." He scratched the back of his head, rubbing out some of the water dripping from it. Of course, Reid deserved it but Tyler couldn't tell her that. He'd never tell anyone else that. He always had the boys backs no matter what they did to him or what he was feeling about them at the current moment. "Oh, um.... thanks." Nice... Yeah, he'd heard that one a million times.
Tyler looked down at himself and nodded with a chuckle. "Something like that... It's pouring out there." Yeah, he was freezing but he could handle it. He was tough. Okay, not really but he wasn't going to admit it. It was bad enough that he was stuttering and blushing. She didn't need to know that he was punking out because he was a little cold.
"Yeah? I wanted to see that, I just never got around to it." Tyler wasn't so silly as to think too much of her offer. She was just asking if he wanted to watch a film with him. No one ever gave him that kind of offer. "Um, but I think I should probably change. Give me twenty minutes?" He was going to need a shower to warm up, too, that was for sure. Still, twenty minutes was more than enough time to get to his room, grab clothes, shower, dress and go to her room.
Alex Foster - August 11, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
Alex had never been one that followed the crowds. She didn't even really try to go against the grain, it somehow just always... happened. She figured she was too headstrong to be another Barbie mold. She could never have been the popular girl, even if she was popular... she was the "obsessed with perfection and control so she didn't pay attention to what anyone thought of her" girl. There were many aspects of her personality that would never fit into the twisted ideal image of a 'young lady', and especially not the realistic version that was prevalent. But... she'd never cared about the opinion of others'.
"Girls should never offer guys that. It gets our hopes up."
Alex smirked, "Getting your hopes up would be telling you I wouldn't even be wearing this back in my dorm." She giggled a bit, and brushed a bit of hair from her face. "Good thing I have my modesty..." She smiled at him, one thing could be said for the girl, she knew that boys were easy to toy with, even if it wasn't intentional. But she also rarely ever let it go very far. Flirting yes, hooking up... not very often.
"Don't worry about it, Reid's got some thick skin."
Alex nodded, Reid could be a tough ass she imagined. Though she'd never really cared to find out. "Yea... but what about you?" Tilting her head to the side, she watched him for a moment, and raised an eyebrow as his resigned tone of voice replayed in her mind for a moment. She carefully maneuvered her bag of chips and m&m's to tuck between her arm and stomach.
"Something like that... It's pouring out there."
"Is that so?... I swear it looks like you and a water hose became good friends..." She laughed, but nodded when he said he'd be down in about 20. "MMkay, see ya in a bit..."
It wasn't that she didn't find Tyler or his friends attractive really, her preferences just tended to fluctuate between the genders. As she walked back down the hallway, she couldn't help but smile at the idea that a very good looking guy was going to be spending time with her alone in her dorm, and for the first time in a long while, it didn't make a difference. "Oh... sometimes being nice... can get you into trouble... look out for yourself, k?" She called after him from down the hall, before she turned a corner to the stairwell.
Fin. Continued in dorms?
