Welcome to Derya. It’s a quiet place that could be called a large town, or maybe a small city. It sits by the ocean and so much of its economy comes from shipping, fishing and tourism. The community is – for the most part – peaceful. But when something scandalous does happen, it’s city-wide gossip.
The teens of the town are always looking for something new and interesting to do, and that was how the discovery of the theatre came about. A group was exploring some of the less-used regions of the town when they came upon a building they had never noticed before, and that was set away from the rest. It was old and dilapidated and the front was completely boarded up. The youths managed to gain entry through a side entrance, however. Inside they found a place only previously explored in dreams, a new world full of beginnings and endings – an abandoned theatre.
The group decided to keep it quiet until they had established themselves there. For it was instantly evident that they couldn’t let this great find go to waste. They would refurbish it and start their own plays and musicals! Now all it needed was a name…
In the lobby there were three sculptures hanging on the back wall. They were tarnished with age but were still mostly intact. The ones to the left and right were the classic theatrical masks of Comedy and Tragedy. The centre one, however, was unfamiliar. This mask had a sly, half smile and was winking at the onlookers. No one was sure what it was supposed to signify, but it gave the new theatre its name.
Welcome to the secret world of dreams and adventures. Welcome to
The Third Mask
