Music Down Under
Welcome to the Academy of Fine Arts and Drama.
”Where I come from, being gay isn’t okay. It’s the worst possible crime anyone in the world could possibly commit to them. But I’m not there anymore. I’m halfway across the world, doing what I love. So why am I terrified of telling anyone my secret?”
”Him and I. We were going great. I thought we were going to end up together, forever. I have no idea what happened. I guess I chickened out. The worse part? Turns out I’m pregnant. We broke up three months ago. It’s got to be his baby. I have no idea what to do. Do I tell him, or just get rid of the baby and move on like we both had agreed on?”
The Academy of Fine Arts and Drama is the most elite university for anyone hoping to make it in the artistic world. Their actors are always referred to the big shot, American movie producers, or the theater hotshots of the world. Their classical musicians’ names spread through the Philharmonic’s and Symphonies of the world. Their singers handed interviews with the hotshots of the music producing world. Yeah. It’s very easy to say that any student whose gotten into Sydney’s AFAD has the fast track to success. But, it’s not necessarily easy to get in. You either have to have the funds to pay your tuition, or the pure talent to get onto a competitive, semester-long scholarship.
The scholarship students are always easy to point out. They are the ones pouring their hearts into their talent. Why? Because each year they are all evaluated by their professors, and if there wasn’t a senior who opened a spot in their field, and an upcoming, soon to be, freshman who is better then you at the end of the year, you get booted out. It’s that simple.
Well, that used to be the way it was.
But not anymore. Now that Mr. Dowe, the brand new headmaster has taken command, he’s shaking things up. EVERYONE has to be evaluated. Meaning everyone has the chance of losing their shot. None of the Singers, or Actors, or Musicians are safe. Yes. These poor young adults have extremely difficult times ahead of them. They not only have to fight their hardest for a spot doing what they love, but they also have to deal with the drama that comes with life. The drama of romance, and friends, and secrets. Everyone’s got secrets. What’s yours?
”I’m a professional, for godsake! Professional’s don’t fall for their coworkers. They just don’t. Or, if they do, they never do anything about it. Yet, I can’t help it. We’re constantly sneaking around, risking everything. I just can’t help but wonder… is it worth it?”
