A devil in a midnight mass,
He preyed behind stained glass
A memory of Sunday class
Resurrected from the past
Staring right back in the face
A memory can't be erased
I know, because I tried
Start to feel the emptiness
And everything I'm gonna miss
I know, that I can't hide
All this time is passing by
I think it's time to just move on
When it’s your time to go, it’s your time to go. There isn’t anyway you can run from death, you can’t win out immortality no matter how hard you try. There is no such thing as the fountain of youth or the ‘Sorcerer’s Stone’. You can’t fight Fate and death will come no matter how hard you try to avoid it. Most believe that when you die, you go on to Heaven, or some place where your soul will forever be at peace, that is if you’ve lived a good life. People die everyday, in car accidents, of old age, the young and the old, the energetic and the tired. Sometimes life is taken whether it seems fair or not, but you can’t stop it from going, no matter how evolved science is. If the person is destined to die, they will.
Hold your breath and count to four
Pinky swears don't work no more
Footsteps down the hallway floor
Getting closer to my door
I was alive but now I'm singing
When you come back down
If you land on your feet
I hope you find a way to make it back to me
When you come around
I'll be there for you
Don't have to be alone with what you're going through
Most accept their fate and live out the rest of eternity, waiting for their loved ones behind those pearly gates or in the fires of Hell. But some don’t accept it; they just don’t think it was right to have died the way they did, so they fall. They fall back to earth, a most agonizing process that isn’t approved of by the All Powerful. Some, who’ve decided that they want a little more time on earth, make the journey back to the living. The fallen angels land back on earth, the only sign that they are angels are the jagged scars on shoulders blades of where their wings were once attached and their angelic powers. While the All Powerful doesn’t like them to fall in the first place, those who do are prohibited from contacting anyone from their previous life, for obvious reasons. The person is believed to be dead, and showing up at a familiar doorstep will begin a international crisis, or the renewal of faith everywhere. For this they are forced to start all over, creating a new life from the pieces they have of their old life.
Silent night for the rest of my life
Silent night for the rest of my life
Violent knight at the edge of your knife
Forgive me father... Won't make it right
Silent night for the rest of my life
Silent night at the edge of your knife
You're guilty!
Start to breathe and fake a smile
It's all the same after a while
I know, that you are tired
Carrying the ones you lost
A picture frame with all the thoughts
I know, you hold inside
I hope that you can find your way back
To the place where you belong
Some settle down again, near where they had lived before or far away, to avoid the temptation of returning. They take up jobs, blending back into the background, with their scarred backs and the few angelic powers they have; sensing good in people, the ability of self healing and healing others and precognition of up to a few weeks. Other turn into wanders, moving from town to town, doing what they can to live their new lives without being discovered, but aren’t able to give up on their previous lives. The one thing they all have in common is the instinct to protect those around them, one of the consequences of falling, they are turned into guardian angels.
A devil in a midnight mass
Killed the boy inside the man
The holy water in his hands
Can never wash away his sins
Hold your breath and count to four
Pinky swears don't work no more
Put my trust in God that day
Not the man that taught his way
I was alive but now I'm singing
When you come back down
If you land on your feet
I hope you find a way to make it back to me
When you come around
I'll be there for you
Don't have to be alone with what you're going through
The angels aren’t the only ones who aren’t happy with death though. Those who lived a previous life of unrepented sins aren’t exactly at home in the eternal fires of Hell. They either escape from the fires or make a deal with the Devil for freedom once more. They aren’t allowed back into their old lives, and like the angels are forced to start over again. Those who escape make out their new lives for good, wanting to be accepted into heaven the next time they are led into Judgment Hall. They do what they can to correct their previous vices and encourage others to do the same. The ones who’ve made a deal with Lucifer, set out to promote chaos and sin in the world, recruiting those they can to the ‘dark side’. Like the angels, those who belong to the Devil have abilities too, the ones who are changing for the better have the abilities of a lesser angel, with limited senses to good, healing and precognition. The bad ones, are “blessed” with abilities to do harm, sense evil and encourage it, power of persuasion and seduction.
Silent night for the rest of my life
Silent night for the rest of my life
Violent knight at the edge of your knife
Forgive me father... Won't make it right
Silent night for the rest of my life
Silent night at the edge of your knife
You're guilty!
You're coming back down
You say you feel lost can I help you find it
When you come around
From time to time we all are blinded
You're coming back down
You don't have to tell me what you're feeling
I know what you're going through
I won't be the one that lets go of you
In between these new species of mortals, are your everyday humans, the ones who interact with the angels and devils and have no idea of the truth behind their histories. They are unaware that the butcher at the deli is actually a fallen angel and that the paper boy is actually a demon is disguise. The angels and demons aren’t supposed to expose themselves to anyone, but that hasn’t always stopped them. You’ll eventually find out that the man you married didn’t get those scars from a mountain biking accident or that the crimson tint you see in your neighbor’s eye isn’t a trick of the light at all.
