The swimming pool, probably the place that was always packed with Spenser’s elite swimmers. Seriously Mattie always thought that the only thing Spenser trained it students for was to become great Olympic swimmers. Not that she minded much cause one they were actually pretty good and two she really didn’t mind complaining about watching a couple of cute guys in swim trunks practicing. Yes cute was key word in that, a very keen key word in that sentence.

But considering it was like 9 at night it wasn’t too popular now. Most kids of the academy were sleeping. Since today was only Thursday and everything and they needed their sleep. What could she say she wasn’t too fond of sleeping and her parting always started a little bit early right. I mean what would be the fun in actually being awake for her English class tomorrow when she knew they were going to have Mister Davis who was like really lenient.

So when she figured out she couldn’t sleep tonight Mattie decided to find some peace and quiet. She looked over at the clock almost midnight now she sighed and threw her covers off of herself as she walked over to the closet and pulled out her swimming clothes. And put her regular clothes over it. She walked across campus making her way to the inclosed swimming pool. Technically there wasn’t a rule against being here after a certain time. She smirked to herself as she walked in and saw the clear water glistening against the ceiling of the place. She wasn’t exactly sure if she would really take the chance in swimming, since yes Mattie wasn’t that good of a swimmer and well she didn’t want to drown with no one around. Instead she opted for her ipod and the new cosmopolitan magazine at hand. Maybe someone would come to get her out of her boredom, who knew who was up late at night.

With the kids at Spenser she never put it past them to be up this early or late which ever way you want to twist it. I mean she couldn’t be the only one suffering from insomnia, or someone was probably stumbling back in their dorms drunk right now.

The other guys were off doing whatever. Tyler was bored and wanted to get out of the dorm so he decided to go swimming. He was glad that he was staying in the dorms rather than with his parents sometimes. He was sixteen years old and she treated him like he was five. If he'd been home, he would have had to try and convince her that he was seriously going swimming rather than going out to do something else. Still, he loved swimming and he was on the team that made it to nationals twice so it wasn't like he was lying to her to get out of it. If he go caught trying to use swimming as a way to get out of the house without his 'guardians' he'd be screwed.

Still, he didn't understand her logic. It was when he was with the other guys that he got into the most trouble. Think about it. Reid was his partner in crime and the guy was pretty sick when it came to ideas. They were always just barely getting away from the cops and Caleb was always on their case for using their powers. If anything, she should have been doing her best to keep him away from the boys. She knew how his father was with the other boys' fathers and she wanted him to hang out with the boys to 'stay out of trouble'. Yeah, okay...

Nine was not late at all. In fact, Tyler was just coming in from dinner when he realized he was bored. Pogue had Kate. Caleb had Sarah and Reid had some girl they'd met at Nicky's while enjoying dinner. It was the curse of being the youngest. Poor little Ty had no one. Depressing much? Yeah, so he was out for a swim to distract him. Yeah, there was a rule about pool hours but you usually caught a break when you were on the team. He didn't worry about anything other than getting into the pool and going for a swim. Tyler slipped into the observation box, throwing on an Avenged Sevenfold CD into the sound system before he headed into the locker room. There wasn't anyone else in the building, at least he didn't think so, so it wasn't like he had to worry about disturbing anyone and it wasn't turned up too loud.

He changed out of his jeans and T shirt and into the swim uniform the school provided. It wasn't a Speedo but it wasn't exactly board shorts, either. He had no idea what the hell to call it. It was a... boy short Speedo? Whatever it was, the girls seemed to like it. He grabbed a towel and headed out to the pool deck when he stopped at the sight of a girl. "Oh..." He didn't realize that there was anyone else in there. At first, Tyler just stood there, feeling a little awkward before he decided to speak up. "Um, if you want, I could turn off the music."

Mattie had always been a weird one for finding spots to sit or lie down at. Anyone in their normal mind frame would have probably went for laying across on one of the few bleachers they had in the swim room. Which were used when they had meets or when they had swim-offs or whatever the hell they called them. She wasn’t one to pay attention too much to details, especially in sports. I mean was swimming really a real sport, all you did was float in water. Of course Mattie wasn’t an Olympic swimmer, actually she wasn;t too good of a swimmer but she didn’t see the competive-ness s Or why it was such a high standard in this school.

But back to where Mattie was laying down, Well if it wasn’t on the bleachers where else could she be. There wasn’t any chairs for her to lie back in, so what was left the floor. Eh no she would rather stand up than lie down on the floor. So where was Miss. Mattie, well miss Mattie was high on one of the diving boards. Yep you heard right, she was laying in the middle of the row of diving boards on one. Her heads was towards the ground and her feet were positioned towards the end of the diving board where the water began.

Weird place right it was I mean you didn’t see anyone laying on a diving board too often. But then again Mattie wasn’t your average girl. And it gave her a sense of piece and serenity. I mean her feet were like dangling a bit and her entire body felt like it was floating, it was a nice perfect feeling to her and she had just let her body go and relax.

She had her ipod laying on the ground next to her head, her headphones in her ears and the volume turned up as loud as it could go. And in her hands you would see a cosmopolitans magazine opened and you would see her hazel eyes scanning the page. Right now Mattie was too wrapped up in the world of the dos and don’ts of this fashion season and the realm of Gerard Way’s voice [My Chemical Romance] to notice anything. She was slowly humming onto the music and every here and there you would hear a bubble popping from the gum she was chewing.

She had heard something towards the end of the song. She was a little puzzled at first, it kind of scared her a little. They were also those gay little rumors about the school being haunted or something but she shrugged it all away. But her little ghost fears were quickly putting away by two set of feet she could see out of the corner of her eyes. She breathed a sigh of relief. She reached for her headphones and took them off. Now she was hearing A7X through the speakers in the room. She then let her eyes wondered up from the feet of a mysterious figure to the top. Ok telling by the little uniform she guessed the person was on the swim team. Now if she paid attention to the sport she would know the guys name but she didn’t in hand in hand she didn’t know the person in front of hers’ name. She shook her head “Naw its fine” She said.

Tyler was rarely seen without one of the other guys. More that than, he didn't really find random places to chill. In most cases, he was pretty boring in his choices. He liked the Dells, Nicky's any place on campus, the woods... If anyone was to think any of those places would have to be the old Danvers house or Putnam Barn. Still, for him, they weren't random at all. They were the places he felt most at home. Aside from there? School, particularly the pool. Tyler was really into sports, mostly the non contact ones but that was because he was a pretty thin guy. He'd play with the boys but not on an actual team. His mother wouldn't allow it anyway. She really was too over protective. He loved his mother but she was a little on the crazy side, if you asked him.

He looked up at the girl, waiting for a reply. Now, this was a weird place to just hang out. Especially alone. Maybe she was waiting for someone? No, that was stupid. It was the perfect way for her to get caught in a place where she didn't really belong at the moment. It didn't even look like she was going to be swimming but he just saw a girl. She didn't really see, nor did he take note of, what she was wearing. He wouldn't be leaving though. If she wanted her peace and serenity, all for it but he was still going to be swimming. It wasn't that he was trying to be rude or anything, it was just a free country, he was a swimmer, and this was a pool.

He nodded when she responded and headed over to the bleachers to set down his towel and stretch a bit. He hated getting a cramp while swimming. It wasn't safe but he could handle himself. After all, he could still stay afloat and, if he couldn't, then he could use his powers to help him out. He was just a really good swimmer. His mother had said that he could swim before he could walk and that was pretty cool to him. Water had a way of calming him down and so he took full advantage of it. Tyler stood on the edge of the pool, took in a deep breath and dove in, swimming a few laps before he took a break under the diving boards.

Mattie had a way with words didn’t she…Heh no. She was usually brief and straight to the point at all times. It was what you would expect from her once you got to knew her. You would get to know that she could take an entire Shakespeare play and summarize it up in no more than a couple of pages. She wouldn’t give you any of the frilly things or imagery he gave you in the book she would just simply give you the stuff you needed to not fail the test. So her response was short and blunt. It didn’t leave you in a puzzled state, it didn’t leave you with another question to start up any kind of conversation either. Sometimes people miss took it for meanness or something but she really didn’t mind.

As she saw the figure nod to her comment and walk away to the bleachers. She thought she saw the face before but couldn’t quite place it. She wasn’t too close with any of the ‘sons of Ipswich’ really so it wasn’t like she would know Tyler. She took her earphones again and placed them in her ears. Turning up the music as it was once before. It was a tad loud, ok it was a lotta bit loud. If you were standing within 6 feet of her you could hear at least the bass of the song. Teenagers had just finished and now it was on to famous last words. She gently bopped her head, another one of her famous habits she did. Especially when she heard a nice song she liked, or something she hadn’t heard before but just liked the beat of. As her head moved slightly her brunette curls swayed a little bit underneath her head, but not much like she was rocking out to a guitar solo.

She picked up her magazine again by the side of the pool and began to let go of reality and into the wonderful word of Hollywood. It was nice escape to hear about other peoples lives that was not you own, it may have sounded totally stupid and childish and defiantly a wanna-be-blondeish when she said she was a tad addicted to all kind of gossip in Hollywood. Like who making up, whose breaking up, who’s hooking up and who’s partying to the fullest. What can she say? It was all interesting and well better than her dull but no so boring life.

The swimming didn’t mind her much, she could hardly see anything since her face was stuck in the magazine. And her ipod blocked out most noises, if any was made by him diving into the water. The only thing that caught her attention at times was the occasional splash of water that caught her. But it was normally just little droplets and she didn’t mind it too much. Since she didn’t have to worry about her hair getting frizzy or un-ruely. It was the pros of being half-Italian that your hair just stayed curly in the mist of water most times.

She slowly reached for her ipod as she switched from My Chemical Romance to McFly. Yes she was quite the one to be into British punk/saka punk. What can she say it was addicting and the little accents that complimented the music was adorable. At this point all the silence with someone else in the room was a tad bit weird. But she didn’t know what to say and well he was busy with his swimming and she had her book.

Tyler was a quiet kid but he was never one to turn down a conversation. The response this girl had given had kind of made it so that she didn't want to talk and that was fine by him. It was a little rude but that was because his mother had taught him to always make small talk. She just kind of seemed like the type of person that wouldn't want that so he'd left it alone. He didn't want someone in his face. Yes, Tyler here was scared of girls. Okay, so it wasn't as if he was really afraid of them, he just didn't want to get into a fight with a girl. They were viscious and Tyler didn't do well in arguments. He was more of a throw down guy. He wasn't that great of a fighter but Reid had taught him enough. Of course, it was usually only when he was with Reid that Tyler found himself landing in fights.

Tyler went back to swimming the moment he caught his breath. He wasn't keeping track of time but he was swimming the laps as fast as he could to build up speed. It was also a good way to work on his lung capacity and strength. Swimming was physical and it took agility and dedication. It was like track, but in the water. Tyler did a little bit of everything. He was a versatile swimmer but he was mostly a backstroke, Pogue being a butterfly and Caleb a freestyle, but he also participated in diving. This time, though, he pushed himself until he felt as if he was going to pass out. He pushed himself back to the diving boards, pushing himself up on the lowest one to sit there for a moment and breathe.

He looked up at the girl, wondering if she could hear him if he spoke. It was time for him to dive a bit until he was ready to go back to just swimming. His cheeks were slightly flushed and it gave him a rosy doll like appearance. On his face, that wasn't a good thing. It just made him look even younger. "Hey, um... You might wanna move. I'm gonna dive and you're zine will get wet." Not to mention, her and her iPod. At least he was warning her. Tyler would be starting off on the high dive and that'd get her pretty wet. It wouldn't be right away, though. He needed to breathe.
